Bao Shoreditch: Conde Nast Traveller

17 August 2021

The latest opening from bun experts BAO.

It's been years since London's favourite Taiwanese bun house launched in Soho, and queues still snake outside the tiny space on Lexington Street. After that smash-hit opening, BAO outposts followed in Borough, Fitzrovia and King's Cross. Now the team has added to its portfolio with a new venture on buzzy Redchurch Street in Shoreditch- BAO Noodle Shop. Seating spills over two floors - upstairs, the main dining room resembles a futuristic canteen from a Wes Anderson film set, with shiny white tiles covering the bar area, polished wooden walls framing the rest of the interior and lots of plush red leather. Sleek metal surfaces separate off the kitchen, which is lined with bar stools - opt for one of these seats and you can watch as the chef preps your supper. Downstairs, there's a whisky bar for a nightcap and a private-dining space that can be rented for special occasions - not forgetting the much-hyped karaoke room to carry on the late-night party with neon disco lights and a call button to order food and drink.
